TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local high school students had the opportunity to learn more about some hidden history” in Terre Haute on Monday.
Monday marked 90 years since Terre Haute native Willa Brown entered aviation school.
Students from West Vigo High School met at Terre Haute Regional Airport to see Willa Brown’s display. Local historian Doctor Crystal Reynolds said Brown started learning to fly back in 1934 In Chicago.
Monday’s experience was part of the Hidden Women’s History of Terre Haute Tour.
“And I am just so glad the West Vigo high schoolers are here and I want them to learn about the great history of Terre Haute I want them to learn about the great history of women in Terre Haute the great history of African Americans in Terre Haute but I also want them to have an appreciation for history and maybe they will go out and study it,” Dr. Reynolds said.
Students also received an introduction to aviation careers from the new airport director.
