TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Dozens of family members and friends of Zinyetta Morgan celebrated her life Wednesday during a memorial to honor the life of the fallen Indiana State Student.
Morgan died in a car accident on April 16th. She was involved in many campus organizations, and was known for her bright personality and outgoing spirit that impacted many she interacted with since she came to the university, including Tiffany Reed.
Reed is the Assistant VP of Student Affairs and Inclusion, and met Morgan when she attended a Student African American Sisterhood meeting three years ago. She helped put together the ceremony and was moved to see just how many people around the community Morgan touched since she arrived.
“This is a celebration of life, her life deserves to be celebrated,” she said. “She’s an amazing student and an amazing student leader. It was beautiful, not just hearing from her family, but faculty members who got to see her in and outside of the classroom.”
Reed said one aspect of the ceremony that stood out to her was how many people stepped up to speak about what Morgan meant to them.
“People want to come up and say something, that’s just the impact that she has,” Reed said. “I think it’s important not to stick to the program and welcome people to say something to honor her.”
Morgan’s legacy won’t just live on through the people that she loved, but also, hopefully, with a scholarship in her name, and a ceremony during a study abroad trip to Ghana this summer– the same trip Morgan went on herself.
“It’s really, really hard and unbelievable, but we know she stepped foot on ISU’s campus for a reason,” Reed said. “Because she was here, we’re going to make sure her legacy continues to live on here as well.”
